ANN THOMPSON conveys a special perspective on opera thanks to an international background, a classical European education and fluency in several languages. Boundless energy and enthusiasm, indefatigable research and access to unusual sources, allied to a way with language and an eye for the relevant, allow her to present the opera goer with insights that are entertaining, informative and tied in to real life. The novice will find her a thoughtful companion who illuminates and enriches; the aficionado will be introduced to new aspects of a familiar and beloved classic. In 1975 she joined the volunteer docent programs of the Houston Grand Opera Guild in local schools; since 1985 the adult community at large enjoys her unique audio visual programs on any and every subject connected with opera. Today she is a popular pre-curtain lecturer at the opera house. She provides descriptive services for blind patrons, creates educational material about opera in print and in sound, and provides background information during opera tours to Europe.
